The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has substantially restored the operation of its elevators and escalators. As of Wednesday, January 19, 2022, 32 elevators and 24 escalators are already working.
In line with its mandate to provide safe and efficient transportation to the public, the LRTA has prioritized the restoration of its non-operational elevators and escalators.
The LRTA’s top priority is to ensure that everyone, especially the mobility challenged train riders — the elderly or senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) — can easily move around its stations and board its trains.
To recall, the new LRTA administrator — on the first day of his assumption of office on January 4, 2022 and upon the instructions of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Art Tugade – had conducted an ocular inspection of the non-operational conveyances of LRT Line-2 (LRT-2) and called for their immediate repair. The fact that the new LRTA administrator was directed to conduct the ocular inspection on his very first day of assumption of office underscores that the DOTr recognizes the priority needs of the riding public.
