The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has initiated proactive steps towards energy efficiency and conservation. With a focus on reducing electricity and fuel consumption, LRTA has launched comprehensive measures across all departments and facilities.
The LRTA started changing all lights from fluorescent to LED fixtures and targets to complete this transition for all offices by December 2025. This forms part of a broader lighting conservation strategy that includes maximizing natural daylight, ensuring lights are turned off during lunch breaks and after office hours, and minimizing lighting in unoccupied areas.
All air conditioning units have been marked with stickers reminding personnel to follow operating hours to conserve energy. Energy conservation tip stickers were also posted next to all switches to remind employees of energy conservation practices throughout the workplace.
Additional conservation measures implemented include strict protocols for air-conditioning systems, with temperature settings maintained at no lower than 24°C based on ambient conditions, and comprehensive fuel-saving practices for the LRTA vehicle fleet.
These initiatives align with Republic Act No. 11285, known as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Act, and follow the Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (IAEECC) Advisory No. 02 on the Mandatory Implementation of Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Program and the Strict Observance of the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) Guidelines.

Prior to implementing these efforts, all departments, division offices, and project management offices of LRTA were directed to designate Energy Conservation Officers responsible for overseeing compliance with energy conservation protocols.

The agency has also established active monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track progress and ensure compliance with all energy conservation directives.
