The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has successfully completed its annual maintenance activities conducted during Holy Week, from April 17 to 20, 2025. This maintenance program involved repairs, inspections, and enhancements to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the LRT Line 2 system as regular service resumes on Monday, April 21.

During the four-day period, maintenance efforts included the replacement of wooden timber tie sleepers that had served for over 25 years, contact wire replacement, rail grinding and reprofiling, and thorough inspections and repairs of rolling stocks, catenary wire, electrical, signaling and telecommunications equipment. Other crucial tasks involved repainting of platform directional markers, cleaning of stations facilities and performing epoxy injection maintenance on structural posts from EDSA Cubao to Recto and Legarda, supporting infrastructure stability and longevity.

LRTA Administrator Atty. Hernando T. Cabrera personally inspected maintenance work at various stations during the period. He also stressed the importance of health and safety to maintenance personnel in the intense heat, urging them to wear protective gear and stay hydrated while working.

In addition to supervising Line 2 maintenance, Administrator Cabrera visited LRT Line 1 stations to review maintenance activities led by the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC).

On the final day of maintenance, the LRTA hosted a lunch for all personnel as a gesture of appreciation for their hard work. They expressed gratitude to all staff who contributed to the successful completion of the maintenance activities throughout Holy Week. “This is a small token of appreciation for your dedication and service. Despite the heat, fatigue, and lack of sleep, your commitment to public service is admirable and invaluable,” Cabrera stated.

This annual maintenance activity highlights the LRTA’s commitment to providing convenient, accessible, safe, secure, and affordable transportation for all.
