The Light Rail Transit Authority Line 2 (LRT-2) has achieved major improvements in train operations, service reliability, and station facilities since 2022, as highlighted by LRTA Administrator Atty. Hernando T. Cabrera during his recent interview on the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Sakay Na radio program on Radyo Pilipinas 1.
“When we assumed administration in 2022, the LRT-2 was operating with only 6-7 train sets. Thanks to the unwavering support from the DOTr, we have successfully repaired additional trains, and currently we have 10 trains running. Additionally, there is one more train undergoing repairs, which will bring our total to 11 train sets,” Administrator Cabrera reported.
He emphasized a remarkable improvement in service reliability, noting a reduction in service interruptions from 12-15 incidents monthly to just one or two, with several months experiencing zero interruptions.
Administrator Cabrera also shared updates regarding enhanced station services. “We are committed to ensuring that all our restrooms are functional and clean. Our team closely monitors the operation of our elevators and escalators; at present, all elevators are operational, with only one escalator under repair. We perform daily checks on our conveyance systems to maintain high standards of service,” he explained.
Looking towards the future, Administrator Cabrera announced the addition of five new train sets as part of the West Extension Project, currently in the right-of-way acquisition phase.
This extension will increase the line by five kilometers and include three new stations located at Divisoria, Tutuban, and Pier 4, thereby expanding LRT-2’s reach to the Port Area, Manila.
The project entails a total investment of P10 billion, with P2 billion already allocated for critical property acquisitions and utility relocation works.
The LRTA remains dedicated to providing reliable and efficient public transportation service for the riding public.
